1 STATEMENTS TO LIVE BY – Spring 2
Over the next few weeks we will be working together to.... ‘To know that everything has the capacity to reveal God’s presence and in the light of this develop effective and satisfying relationships’ This week we will take the opportunity to discuss and support each other as we learn about this statement: I try to keep going when things are difficult and not give up hope I know what humility means Can we think of something that we have each found a struggle to do? 5 Generous God, We give you thanks because you loved the world so much you sent your only Son to show us how to live and to grow in love. May we share your love with others. Amen. McEniff 2018

6 “For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son.”
McEniff 2018

7 We listen: Jesus said to Nicodemus:
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John. Jesus said to Nicodemus: 14 Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” 16 For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. 18 The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.  19 Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does wrong hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed. 21 But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God. John 3: 14-21 The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ McEniff 2018

8 We respond: KS2 So who was Nicodemus?
Jesus was speaking to Nicodemus in the Gospel. Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, the ruling body of the Jews. He is mentioned in three places in the Gospel of John: He first visits Jesus one night to discuss Jesus' teachings (John 3:1–21). The second time Nicodemus is mentioned, he reminds his colleagues in the Sanhedrin that the law requires that a person be heard before being judged (John 7:50–51). Finally, Nicodemus appears after the Crucifixion of Jesus to help Joseph of Arimathea prepare the body of Jesus for burial (John 19:39–42). McEniff 2018

9 We respond: All How much do you think God loves you?
In Sunday’s gospel reading we hear that God loved the world so much that he gave us Jesus to show us how to live and to help bring us closer to God. How much do you think God loves you? How do you know when someone loves you? How should we treat someone that we love? God does not just love a few special people, God loves everybody. God loves all people whether they are rich or poor, no matter where they live or where they come from, no matter whether they are healthy or ill. We are all part of God’s global family. God asks us to share this love and to also care for others no matter who they are or where in the world they live. God calls us to care for our global family and to share generously with them all that we have been given. When we do this we are sharing God’s love. McEniff 2018
