1 Life (after this tent) in Christ

2 Death – Today defined as “The cessation of neurological criteria equaling being “dead”
Of an inmate on “life support” the newspaper said; Brain dead inmate’s family seeking his early release.” A doctor said to a family; “Your loved one is dead, but is being kept alive by a breathing machine.” A doctor reported: “Not technically dead, but essentially dead.

3 What happens when our “Earthly Tent” dies?
[2Co 5:6 NIV] 6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. [Phl 1:23 NIV] 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; [Mar 12:27 NIV] 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"

4 Death of the body, alive to God differs from the RESURRECTION!
“Resurrection” is not simply death…from another viewpoint; it is the reversal of death, its cancellation, the destruction of its power. Resurrection involves receiving a “new body.” [1Cor. 15:40 NIV] 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another.

5 The Resurrected body [1John 3:1 NIV] 1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

6 The “heavenly” body will be the same as what Jesus has now
[1John 3:2 NIV] 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

7 What do we know about Jesus?
[Philippians 2:5-6 NIV] 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

8 What do we know about Jesus?
[Philippians 2:7-8 NIV] 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death--even death on a cross!

9 [Philippians 2:9-11 NIV] 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

10 Jesus is a resurrected human (a man) with a resurrection body
[1Timothy 2:5 NIV] 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,

11 We Know (from scripture)
Jesus was with God John 1:1 (with God as God) He subjected Himself to being a man That He was crucified (killed in an act of capital punishment) and placed in a sealed tomb The he rose from the dead

12 He is with the Father… In a resurrection body, and while we do not have all the information about that, we know that we shall be like Him

13 The Resurrection Body of Jesus
[John 20:27-28 NIV] 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." 28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"

14 The Resurrection Body of Jesus
[Luke 24:36-37, NIV] 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.

15 [Luke 24:38-39 NIV] 38 He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."

16 [Luke 24:40-41 NIV] 40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"

17 [Luke 24:42-44 NIV] 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence. 44 He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

18 The Resurrection Body of Jesus
[Luke 24:45-46 NIV] 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

19 The Resurrection Body of Jesus
[1Corinthians 15:1-2 NIV] 1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

20 The Resurrection Body of Jesus
[1Corinthians 15:3-4 NIV] 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

21 The Resurrection Body of Jesus
[1Corinthians 15:5-6 NIV] 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Cf. 2 Peter 3:4

22 [1Corinthians 15:7-9 NIV] 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. 9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

23 [1Corinthians 15:10-11 NIV] 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11 Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

24 The Resurrection Body of Jesus
[1Corinthians 15:12-13 NIV] 12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.

25 [1Corinthians 15:14-15 NIV] 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.

26 [Hebrews 13:20 NIV] 20 Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,

27 [Hebrews 13:21 NIV] 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

31 [1Jo 2:28 NIV] 28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.

32

33

34 [Rom 8:18-19 NIV] 18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.

35 [Rom 8:20 NIV] 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope

36 [Rom 8:21 NIV] 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

37 [Rom 8:22-23 NIV] 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

38 [Rom 8:24-25 NIV] 24 For in this hope we were saved
[Rom 8:24-25 NIV] 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

39

40 [Rom 8:26 NIV] 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness
[Rom 8:26 NIV] 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

41 [Rom 8:27 NIV] 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God.

42 [Rom 8:28 NIV] 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
