2 Key Words Population - the people that live in a particular place
L/O – Where do people live in England and the UK? L3 – identify where people live in the UK – define sparse and dense population L4 - describe the population distribution of the UK. L5 - explain the pattern of population distribution. Key Words Population - the people that live in a particular place Population distribution – the pattern of where people live Population, distribution, pattern, sparse, dense

3 How does this image help us to work out where people live?
There are more than 64 million people living in the UK. L/O – Where do people live in England and the UK? L3 – identify where people live in the UK – define sparse and dense population L4 - describe the population distribution of the UK. L5 - explain the pattern of population distribution. Question to Ponder How does this image help us to work out where people live? THINK PAIR SHARE Did you know over 8.3 million people live in London! 1.4 million people live in all of Kent Population, distribution, pattern, sparse, dense

4 L/O – Where do people live in England and the UK?
L3 – identify where people live in the UK – define sparse and dense population L4 - describe the population distribution of the UK. L5 - explain the pattern of population distribution. Can you match the approximate number of people to the location? Write the places and your guess in your book. UK 1.4 million 2,800 Kent Hadlow 64 million Population, distribution, pattern, sparse, dense

5 L/O – Where do people live in England and the UK?
L3 – identify where people live in the UK – define sparse and dense population L4 - describe the population distribution of the UK. L5 - explain the pattern of population distribution. Tick or cross your answers Insert map of UK UK 64 million Kent 1.4 million Hadlow 2,800 Population, distribution, pattern, sparse, dense

6 So where do people live in the UK?

L5 - explain the pattern of population distribution. Level 3 and 4c Targets Level 4c,4a or level 5 Targets Choose a task or Choose a task or You will be given a container but you must choose your worksheet. Population, distribution, pattern, sparse, dense

L/O – Where do people live in England and the UK? L3 – identify where people live in the UK – define sparse and dense population L4 - describe the population distribution of the UK. L5 - explain the pattern of population distribution. Progress Check Level 3 Name 1 place where lots of people live Name 1 place where very few people live Level 4 Where would you find dense populations in the UK? Where would you find sparse populations in the UK? Level up to 5 – can you say why? Population, distribution, pattern, sparse, dense

9 L/O – Where do people live in England and the UK?
L3 – identify where people live in the UK – define sparse and dense population L4 - describe the population distribution of the UK. L5 - explain the pattern of population distribution. Once you complete one of the choices ask for a photo to be taken. Sort the cards into two groups. Group 1 – Images to do with a sparse population Group 2 – Images to do with a dense population Sort the cards into two groups. Group 1 – Cards that are related to London. Group 2 – Cards that are related to the Scottish Highlands. Choose one of the place cards. Would it have a sparse or dense population? Now pick the cards that would cause there to be a sparse or dense population. Arrange them around your place picture. Using the whiteboard pen write down how 3-5 cards would cause there to be a sparse or dense population. Population, distribution, pattern, sparse, dense
