2 The Fire Triangle Oxygen – to sustain combustion
Heat – to raise the material to ignition temperature Fuel Chemical, Exothermic Reaction – which is the fire To take one away you will extinguish the fire

3 Classification of Fuels
Class A – Wood, paper, cloth, trash, plastic. Generally leave an Ash Class B – Flammable liquids: gasoline, oil, grease. Generally involve materials that Bubble or Boil. Class C – Electrical. Deal with electrical Current. Class D – Metals: potassium, sodium, magnesium

4 Types of Extinguishers
Water (APW) – Air pressurized water used for Class A fires only Carbon Dioxide (CO2) – For class B & C fires. This extinguisher replaces oxygen with CO2 Dry Chemical (ABC, BC, DC) - Never use water to extinguish flammable liquid and electrical fires.

5 Rules for Fighting Fires
Assist any person in danger to safety Activate the fire alarm and notify fire department Attempt to extinguish the fire if it is small If the fire is spreading rapidly, exit the building

6 Do Not Fight the Fire If…
You don’t have the appropriate equipment The fire is producing a lot of smoke If you are uncomfortable with the situation ALWAYS KEEP AN EXIT AT YOUR BACK

7 How To Use The Extinguisher
Remember the acronym PASS P – Pull A – Aim S – Squeeze S - Sweep

8 How to Use a Fire Extinguisher (continued)
Pull the pin Aim at the base of the fire Squeeze the top handle or lever Sweep from side to side
