1 «The test of a vocation is the love of the drudgery it involves.»
Review & Self-Testing «The test of a vocation is the love of the drudgery it involves.» Logan Pearsal Smith

2 Goal: Imbed the information into your mind. Easily access and apply the stored information. Rationale: Research proves that spaced “practice” improves memory. Proper review moves known data into your “know pile” while enabling you to focus on content that needs more review (the “don’t know pile”). Common mistake: not reviewing recent new material because you think it’s “fresh”.

4 Three Reasons to Self-Test
You’ll be PREPARED You’ll save TIME Keeps you FOCUSED “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” – Jim Rohn

5 What To and How To Review & Self-Test
Required text assignments Supplemental materials (i.e. powerpoints, handouts, video clips, etc) NCLEX style practice questions HESI style practice questions Charts, diagrams, and graphs from your study notes Read over chart quickly, covering answers/key. Write or say the answers to test yourself on what you remember. Content is “mastered” if you can recall at least 90%.

6 Tips for Reviewing and Self-Testing
Carry note cards with you daily. Use charts to self-test. Keep a tally of how frequently you review and self- test. Remember, 90% is considered content mastery. Carry a binder or folder with those focused/condensed notes and charts with you. Have a “know” and “don’t know” tab so you can focus on areas of weakness. Keep review periods short (5 minutes per chart/topic). Plan for a total of minutes/daily for review and self-testing. When to review & self-test?
