4. Course Planning Form
Tonight, before you leave is the time to complete the Planning form, making the best possible choices.
So where do we start?
You will notice your course planning form has been personalized with preloaded courses, based on the courses your are presently taking and based on teacher recommendations. You will find this list at the top of your sheet. If you need to adjust one of those courses, please make the adjustment by crossing out / writing please drop beside the course. In the end, you must have a total of 8 courses chosen within the timetable.
We are in transition phase as some of the changes in the Graduation program will begin this September for Grade 10 students. However, the next stage will occur in September 2019, where the new grade 11 & 12 curriculum will fully implemented. Please refer to the box on the right hand side of your page which has been tailored to your specific graduation year, as it will assist you in ensuring you choose appropriate courses to fulfill your graduation requirements.

34. Work Experience 12A & 12B
The Work Experience program provides an opportunity for grade 11 and 12 students to go out into the community and gain experience in different job placements. It is a great way to experience what different jobs are really like.
Once a placement has been found, the student will attend the placement for a full day once per week with the intention of completing 100 hrs. As an added bonus, students can also complete their hrs on week nights and weekends, adding some flexibility to the course. This is to be worked out by the student and the placement.

37. DUAL CREDIT PROGRAMS What are Dual Credit Programs?
Dual Credit programs allow students the opportunity get a head start on a career while earning both high-school credits and post-secondary credentials while in high school.

In partnership with the College of the Rockies, some of the courses previous students have taken for dual credit are: Knutaxa 101 & 102, Accounting 101, Psychology 100 and, programs like the Discovery Trades and Hair Dressing.

What is Youth Train in Trades?
Youth Train in Trades programs are Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) programs. 
Through an Youth Train in Trades program, students can learn a trade that will give them both high school graduation credits and a head start towards completion of a recognized apprenticeship program. 
Examples of ELTT programs are Carpentry, Plumbing, Welding, Electrical and Culinary Arts to name only a few.

Program Format 
Youth Train in Trades programs are developed and offered as partnerships between school districts and post-secondary institutions, and classes are often taught at college campuses. Local employers also get involved in the development of Youth Train in Trades programs, and students who complete these programs typically have very good success in finding employment.

Student Eligibility
When determining the eligibility of a student for the Youth Train in Trades program, the following eligibility criteria must be met:  a) Students must be aged 19 and under and not yet achieved Ministry of Education graduation; b) Students must complete the Youth Train in Trades program prior to reaching the age of 20; c) Students must be registered for an approved Youth Train in Trades program prior to graduation; and d) Students must complete the Youth Train in Trades program within 3 months after their grade 12 graduation date.

Youth Train in Trades Work Experience  
Work experience placements are usually (but not always) a part of an Youth Train in Trades program – for more information about specific Youth Train in Trades programs, check with Student Services or Mr. Danyluk.
If students participate in Youth Train in Trades Work Experience, they will get credit towards the on-the-job component of their Technical Training program as well.

Certification 
Students that successfully complete an Youth Train in Trades program typically get credit for their level one technical training (in-class) component of their chosen trades training program prior to graduating from high school. 
Each training level is composed of technical training (in school) and work based training (hours on the job).  For a list of trades training requirements see the ITA Red Seal Trades.

46. Youth Work in Trades (WRK) (Formerly Secondary School Apprenticeship)
What is Youth Work in Trades(WRK)? 
The Youth Work in Trades(WRK) program is a work-based training program that gives students the opportunity to earn secondary school credits for their on-the-job work experience in an apprentice-able trade. 
This requires a student to be working with a certified tradesperson who is willing to sponsor the student as an apprentice. 
All work-based training hours accumulated through this program can be reported to the Industry Training Authority (ITA) for apprenticeship hours.

Jump Start your career and your graduation 
By participating in a Youth Work inTrades program a student may commence working in the trade, earn up to 16 high school credits when they have a formal Industry Training Authority (ITA) agreement signed by their employer and receive a Youth Work inTrades certificate upon graduation. 
Many students elect to devote one entire semester in grade twelve to their apprenticeship. Students get "hands on" learning and experience in their chosen field.
Student may be eligible for a $1000 Scholarship once they; complete the full 480 hours during high school, stay active in the trade for up to 5 months past graduation, and have at least 900 hours reported to the ITA by 5 months past high school graduation.

How does the WRK Program work? 
a) Students complete work hours at their afternoon, evening and/or weekend positions with their employer sponsor. 
b) Students learn trade-specific skills from their sponsor on-the-job. 
c) The student and sponsor track and report hours and progress throughout the program. 
d) The WRK Coordinator will work with the sponsor to evaluate the student's progress and assign WRK credits as required.

How do I apply?
Students must have an employer who is willing to sponsor them as an apprentice before applying. 
If you have a sponsor, the next step is to see Mr. Danyluk who will provide information regarding the necessary steps.

Do you have a full timetable which is equivalent to 8 semester courses within the timetable.
Have you met all the grade 10 & 11 Grad requirements in your plan.
Have you considered the necessary Post Secondary admission requirements and included those in your plan.
Have you chosen the correct grade level of course? Note: when choosing Grade 11 & 12 options and both grade levels are listed, you must demonstrate the learning outcomes of the grade 11 course before you are eligible for the grade 12 course.
Have you and your parents signed the bottom of the form.
Tonight, take the time to review the choices you made on your planning sheet, visit the displays and talk to teachers regarding their courses, discuss your choices with your parents and then make your best choices.
