3 About naspa NASPA is the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession. NASPA addresses common functional areas within student affairs (housing, advising, conduct, assessment) as well as broad higher education themes (access, persistence, and degree completion). Our work provides high-quality professional development, advocacy, and research for 15,000 members in all 50 states, 25 countries, and 8 U.S. territories.

9 NASPA connections to today’s students
70% are non-traditional. Development of new types of comprehensive records to capture learning from multiple sources (co-curricular, work engagements, military experiences) 70% commute to campus. Research on emergency aid; proactive uses of behavioral and engagement data 40% work 30 hours a week. Research (in-progress) on the prevalence and impact of on-campus student employment 25% work full time and attend college full time; 20% have children. NASPA’s public policy agenda includes cost of attendance. Mention the 4-year myth info from CCA: only 5% graduate on time from 2-year associate programs, 19% graduate on time from 4-year bachelor’s programs

10 How can practitioners help?
Clearly communicate how to find resources and the process for engaging with various offices. Provide centralized and holistic support services (example: resources that address academic, financial, and career-prep needs). Give students flexible options to balance their academic and personal priorities (examples: adjusted office hours; aligning course schedules with transportation schedules).
