Productive Disposition – mathematics is worthwhile and useful.
Problems that are interesting and intriguing, that have answers that are not obviously apparent

Ability to translate from words to numbers and vise-versa
The use of keywords should be avoided
Reading level and English proficiency play an important role

6. SMP#3 Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
Ask “How do you know?”
Students share the logic behind their answers
Students evaluate each other’s reasoning
Teacher participation is minimal

Develop contexts that can be modeled with manipulatives/representations

It includes the mathematical language used in the classroom by students and teachers.
Mathematical lingo has to be used with precision.

Students might use the structure of our number system to make calculations easier
Students might apply properties, such as the Distributive Property, to make their work more efficient
