Παρακαλέω, (parakaleō) “to call to one’s side” (BDAG, Vine’s)
Comfort – emotional strength, consolation
Exhort – appeal to, urge
Implore (Philippians 4:2) or beg (Acts 13:42), 16:15, urge (1 Timothy 1:3)

Comfort – 5 times in reference to the Holy Spirit and Jesus
“Helper” - John 14:16, 26, 16:26, 16:7
Jesus, our “Advocate” – 1 John 2:1
Consider how the HS helped the apostles – cf. Luke 12:11-12, 2 Timothy 4:16-17

4. Comfort One Another We are living in troubling times.
We all have times of trouble!
We need each other!
We need to be there for “ one another” – in attitude, demeanor and conduct.
Some need comfort more than others, but that is ok.
Philippians 2:1 – if there is any comfort of love

By being there for each other

By being proper example dealing with struggles

2 Peter 3:9, consider God’s longsuffering with us

Remind them what awaits if they overcome and endure

In our comfort, we are not ignoring problems or sinful conduct – but we are seeking to help them overcome! Colossians 4:6
