1 Thessalonians 4:18

2 Comfort One Another Παρακαλέω, (parakaleō) “to call to one’s side” (BDAG, Vine’s) Comfort – emotional strength, consolation Exhort – appeal to, urge Implore (Philippians 4:2) or beg (Acts 13:42), 16:15, urge (1 Timothy 1:3)

3 Comfort One Another Comfort – 5 times in reference to the Holy Spirit and Jesus “Helper” - John 14:16, 26, 16:26, 16:7 Jesus, our “Advocate” – 1 John 2:1 Consider how the HS helped the apostles – cf. Luke 12:11-12, 2 Timothy 4:16-17

4 Comfort One Another We are living in troubling times.
We all have times of trouble! We need each other! We need to be there for “ one another” – in attitude, demeanor and conduct. Some need comfort more than others, but that is ok. Philippians 2:1 – if there is any comfort of love

1 Thessalonians 5:11 1 Thessalonians 4:18 2 Corinthians 1:3-7, we comfort each other as we are comforted by God 2 Corinthians 13:11, be of good comfort…

6 Comfort One Another HOW do we comfort one another?
By being there for each other Cf. John 11:19, 31, Sometimes all we can do is stand beside them Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, 1 Thessalonians 5:14, 2:11 – as a father does his own children

7 Comfort One Another HOW do we comfort one another?
By being proper example dealing with struggles Cf. 1 Peter 2:21-24 Philippians 1:12-14 How you handle adversity can help others who are struggling

8 Comfort One Another HOW do we comfort one another? With patience
1 Thessalonians 5:14, be patient with all 2 Peter 3:9, consider God’s longsuffering with us 1 Corinthians 13:4

9 Comfort One Another HOW do we comfort one another? With our words
1 Thessalonians 4:18, with our words Cf. Romans 15:4, patience and comfort of scripture 1 Corinthians 14:3, in our worship, our teaching ought to exhort and comfort Remind them what awaits if they overcome and endure

Hebrews 10:25, exhorting one another Hebrews 3:13, exhort one another today… In our comfort, we are not ignoring problems or sinful conduct – but we are seeking to help them overcome! Colossians 4:6
