Student Expectations Your child is an expert on what needs to be done at home! Copy down all homeowrk to the Assignment Notebook everyday (this information is usually also written into my website under Homework) Use their Cool Tools of being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe Do their homework & read for at least 30 minutes every night. Load their backpack and bring all materials back to school. Give parent/guardian all notices/information received from school each day.

Parent Expectations Supervise homework completion and daily reading. Sign the Assignment Notebook to verify all work is finished. Provide a quiet spot with no TV or sibling distractions for homework completion/daily reading. Set an appropriate bedtime. Monitor student usage of technology. Help your child learn how to plan for getting school work finished even with other activities. Attendance

Eureka Math - Grade 6 Homework
What does a normal day look like in our math class? Students have homework EVERY NIGHT with Eureka Math. If your child is ABSENT from school, they should complete the HOMEWORK PAGE for the NEXT LESSON in the math book. Please DO NOT WORK AHEAD in the math workbook...we use the book everyday in class for instruction. If you would like your child to have extra math practice, they can use several resources on the Internet. There are several steps involved in a daily lesson: Go over homework (problem set) New lesson Concept Development Examples (teacher led) Exercises (student practice) Discussion/Debrief Khan/Individualized work Homework Assignment (problem set)

PARENT Resources Math Resources - Look on my teacher website for helpful math resources Khan - Online resource for extending learning. Khan is set to their MAP RIT score. Students can access Khan through Classlink.. XtraMath - Daily math fact practice (like flashcards.) Available online at or as an APP on ipad. Eureka Math Parent Homepage - This is the Eureka website Parent page. It has links to Parent Tip Sheets, Homework Helpers, and videos, Eureka Parent Resources - This webpage can be found on District 63’s Homepage and has links by grade level to all module helpers, videos, and tip sheets.

ELA Computer Time/Research Lexia Raz-Kids
Students use Lexia to strength their word study skills Raz-Kids Raz-Kids contains an online library of books for students to read at their reading level. Students can access using CLEVER at home. Also available as an APP (named Kids A-Z)

ELA Word Sorts Words Their Way Greek and Latin Roots
District program that focuses on 5 stages of spelling Spelling inventory places students at their spelling level Students sort words for word study. Greek and Latin Roots Students will learn Greek and Latin roots, so that they can break words into pieces to help them figure out the meaning of the word. Every week, students will get a list of words. They will be tested on Friday, After two new lists, students will take a week to practice both lists and take a final test. This score will be entered into the grade book.

Writing We follow the Common Core Standards and use The Writing Process to write stories and papers. 1st Trimester- Personal and Fictional Narratives 2nd Trimester- Expository/ Informational Text 3rd Trimester- Opinion Writing

Social Studies History Alive!
History Alive! The Ancient World We will complete various chapters throughout the year. What is Inquiry Based Learning? Active learning that starts with a guiding or essential question Students are actively involved in activities or research geared toward answering this question. Students will conduct research, build models, pose viable arguments, ask questions, create projects, teach/learn from peers, and gain knowledge through inquiry or curiosity.
