2 Google L10n: Our backgrounds
Christina Graduated in Translation Studies from the School of Translation and Interpretation of Beirut. Worked as translator, reviewer and content manager for almost every type of content before settling on a career in Localization with Google. Mark Studied Social Psychology at Tomsk State University, Russia, but, being a translation and linguistics enthusiast, started a career in localization soon after graduation, and since then worked at almost every level of the l10n supply chain. Rachele Graduated in Translation Studies, took an introductory course in Localization at the University of Auckland, couldn’t take any localization course at home University because it was only for MA students. Learnt L10n from direct experience. Buket Graduate of Translation and Interpreting Studies from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Came into first contact with localization during a class project to localize Red Hat Linux into Turkish. Worked as a university lecturer before Google. Each talks about their own experience: do not read what’s written but give a personal account of where we come from, what’s our background/studies/previous work experience and how we got at Google
