2. New Industries New cotton textile mills
The south grew a lot of cotton  they took the cotton to their textile mills and made textiles (cloth).
How can they show it off?
Exposition-a large, public display of art or trade goods.
Kind of like a fair.

3. International Cotton Exposition
Held in Atlanta to showcase all of the new industries Atlanta has to offer.
Three different ones held in 1881, 1887, & 1895.
Henry Grady was the great promoter of the first 2 expositions.

The exposition displayed equipment for making textiles (cloth).
It also displayed cotton plants from different nations.

6. Effects of the International Cotton Exposition
Millions of dollars were invested in Atlanta by people who believed that Atlanta’s industries would make them a lot of money.
New jobs were created because the more industries, the more employees those industries needed.
Atlanta became known as the “center” of the New South.
