Export Market: Buyers in countries other that where a product is produced
Domestic Market: A market whose buyers are in the country of origin
There are five major agricultural products in Canada
Grains
Red meats
Dairy
Horticulture
Poultry and eggs

3. Grains and Oilseeds Wheat is the largest crop in Canada
Includes: Durum, spring, and winter wheat
Accounts for 45% of agricultural production
Other grains include oats, soybeans and flaxseed.
Used for domestic food production and animal feeds
There are many domestic uses of grains and oil seeds including
Making textiles, paint sealers, varnishes, and construction materials

4. Red Meat Production Made farmers $7.6 billion in 1996
Mostly hogs and cattle
56% of cattle and 42% of hogs total production is exported

5. Dairy The dairy industry is a supply managed industry
Supply Managed Industry: The supply management limits the amount of a commodity that can be produced by any one product during a given period.
Each producer is given an allowed quota that they can fill
The quota is determined by how much the producer made in previous years, and the demand for dairy products.

6. Horticultural Production
Canadian Horticultural products include:

Strawberries
Raspberries
Potato
Sugar beets
Floricultural Industry includes
Trees
Flowers
Garden and landscape products

7. Poultry and Egg Production
Egg production is worth $2.1 billion to the Canadian economy.
The demand for poultry is increasing as the price and supply of red meat is going down.

Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba: Potatoes, Vegetables, Honey.
Ontario: Fruit, Vegetables, Floriculture
Quebec: Christmas Trees, Vegetables, Fruit, Maple

Co-operatives: Groups of people who have a common goal or purpose and agree to work for the good of all involved.
