The turkey and potatoes smelled wonderful. Everyone became impatient. Many researchers study global warming. Our community recycles glass, newspaper, and aluminum. Connie opened the big umbrella. The king and queen were quite argumentative. I felt sick when I heard the news.

10 PREDICATE ADJECTIVES A predicate adjective is an adjective that follows a linking verb and describes the subject of a sentence. (Forms of be are linking verbs...remember? Other linking verbs are taste, look, feel, smell, appear...you get the idea?) The air feels warm today. Warm is the predicate adjective because it describes air.

11 PRACTICE! IDENTIFY THE PREDICATE ADJECTIVE AND THE WORD IT MODIFIES, OR DESCRIBES.
The flowers smell unusually sweet. Sharon feels happy outside. How beautiful is the day! The surgeon was skillful in the operating room and he saved her life. Her horse appears ready to run the race. Its coat appears gray in the shade, but it becomes silver in the sun. Horses like that are unusual and special. She is fearless when she jumps the fence.
