1 “We don’t have a choice on whether we DO social media, the question is how well we DO it” Erik Qualman For example we don’t have a choice sometimes if people add us to social media but we have choice as how we represent ourselves. Recent media stories in the NRL as examples. Be aware of how your acting no matter how big or small our behaviours shown on social media can be harmful to ourselves and others

2 Social Media - Facebook - Happier - Linkedin - Twitter
- Googleplus Instagram - Youtube Pintrest - Tinder Snap Chat - Eharmony Whatsapp - Viber Talk further about Facebook and security settings. Mention the story about when I made a fake profile (with principal permission) and 8/10 of the girls accepted my request as a “hot guy” I could find out EVERYTHING about these girls who their friends were, what spot the played, see all their photos, see when they were or weren’t at home, see what school they were at, where they hung out in the spare time, that they were underage drinking. I could see ALL this before they accepted me as a friend. With snap chat explain that like all other social media sights these pictures can be recovered by police or talented individuals if they want/ need to bring them back. Young kids need to know the problems involved in this (next slide and legal issues slide).

3 MAJOR problems Security settings Bullying Sexting Negative publicity
Education Non verbal behaviours Sleep deprivation Nothing online EVER disappears Next slide has cyber bullying statistics And take note of the newspaper clipping on sexting

4 The Facts Have a quick read of some of these headlines. Focus on the “A man lost his job from harassing a women online” This you can explain, with investigation required deleted messages on both phone and social media being brought out of “the cloud”. Also the statistics and how impacting they are. 1 in 6 children and 19% of victims attempt suicide.

5 Legal Issues <18 and sexually explicit = Child pornography
Manufacture child pornography Transmit child pornography Possess child pornography Sex offenders register Remember EVERYTHING can be brought back in an investigation, nothing EVER disappears offline. This doesn’t only go for images but texts and posts on social media too! Come on hard with this. Even though you may be presenting to people outside this age bracket a lot of people don’t understand how serious this can be. Also they don’t realise the legal issues with other abusive content and/or offensive messages. These can be brought back at ANY time by either the police or anyone who is technically minded!
