2 Peters Second Sermon Acts 3:12-26

3 Act 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

4 1 Peter once again is addressing Israel and the topic of the fact they KILLED their Messiah; but God raised Him from the dead, and He is coming again v 12.

5 2 Note the many NAMES of Christ found in the Bible v 14-15.

6 3 It was FAITH in His NAME that made the man strong v 16

7 Joh 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

8 4 Notice that Peter states they crucified Christ in IGNORANCE v 17.

9 5 In the OT Law there is a difference between DELIBERATE sins and sins of ignorance

10 Num 15:29 Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them. Num 15:30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

11 6 In Peters previous sermon he explained that the cross was the meeting place of divine sovereignty and human RESPONSIBILITY and now He is repeating this truth once again

12 7 God had a plan from all eternity, yet His plan did not FORCE men to act against their own will. When God cannot rule, He OVERRULES and always accomplishes His divine purpose and decrees v 18.

13 8 The first thing he tells them to do is REPENT
The second thing he tells them is to be “CONVERTED” by exercising faith in who Jesus Christ really was.

14 Act 2: Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

15 POLITICAL PROMISES MADE TO ISRAEL
Isa 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Isa 44:22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

16 POLITICAL PROMISES MADE TO ISRAEL
Jer 50:20 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve. Amo 9: And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.

17 POLITICAL PROMISES MADE TO ISRAEL
Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

18 This has nothing to do with their INDIVIDUAL Salvation.
9 So the declaration is that, if the NATION repented and believed the Messiah would return and establish the promised kingdom and the sins of Israel as a nation would be blotted out. This has nothing to do with their INDIVIDUAL Salvation.

19 The Seventh Year was called the RESTITUTION of all things:
10 Understanding the concept of the The Jubilee Year; No work was permitted in the land during the SEVENTH year. The Seventh Year was called the RESTITUTION of all things: All debtors FORGIVEN; SLAVES released from bondage; LIBERTY to all captives; All families REUNITED; Land reverts to ORIGINAL owners.

20 2Ch 36: And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

21 11 Times of Restitution of all things is a direct reference to the MILLENNIAL REIGN of Christ v 21.

22 12 The Prophet that Moses said the Lord your God would raise up is JESUS CHRIST v 22.

23 Deuteronomy 18:18-19 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him

24 13 All the Prophets from Samuel and those that followed after FORETOLD of these days v 24.

25 14 It was Israel alone that was the children of the prophets and of the COVENANT God made with Abraham v 25

26 Gen 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

27 Gen 12:7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

28 A The Seed of Abraham; Isaac and Jacob (Israel) would be given the PROMISED LAND

29 B That all the nations of the earth would be blessed (Jesus came through the tribe of Judah; one of the sons of Jacob. This promised was FULFILLED when Christ came into the world through the Jewish Nation

30 Gal 3:6-9 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

31 15 Do notice that Peter in v 26 did not permit the national blessings to overshadow their PERSONAL responsibility of rejecting their Messiah.
