ECOSYSTEMS I can explain why organisms can survive in aquatic
and terrestrial ecosystems
2
Ecosystems An ecosystem is all of the living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) things, interacting with each other in an environment. An ecosystem is made up of many smaller habitats.
3
Ecosystems Abiotic (non-living):
Rain, water, sunlight, temperature, minerals in the soil, air, rocks
4
Ecosystems Biotic (living): Plants, animals, and bacteria
5
Ecosystems Biotic and Abiotic factors must work together for an ecosystem to survive and flourish.
6
Ecosystems There are two main types of ecosystems:
Terrestrial – land based ecosystems such as forests and grasslands Aquatic – water-based ecosystems such as lakes, ponds, estuaries, salt marshes, and oceans
