What are Biotic and Abiotic Limiting Factors ? Nermin Youssef 9 th grade 5- 1- 12

Ecosystem Ecosystem is all the living and nonliving things in an area that function together as a unit. Such as bacteria, plants, and animals.

Ex amples of Ecosystems

Biotic Factors Biotic factor is a living thing that affects an ecosystem. Example: plants, animals, microorganism, and bacteria.

Examples of Biotic Factors

Abiotic Factors Abiotic factor is a nonliving thing, that affects an ecosystem and the organisms in it. Examples: water, soil, air, wind, source of energy, and temperature.

Examples of Abiotic Factors

Limiting Factors The success of an organism is limited by the presence or absence of the factors necessary for survival. Often growth of a population is limited by an apparently minor factor in the environment. It is a factor in the environment that controls the growth of a population in an ecosystem. Such as the amount of sunlight, food, water, and minerals.

Biotic Limited Factors One example of a factor that limits the population size, is the relationship between predators, which eat other organisms, and prey, which is hunted for food. The connection between predator and prey limit the growth in both populations.

Abiotic Limited Factors Examples: the amount of dissolved oxygen in a pond can limit the number of fishes living there. light intensity, temperature range, type of soil or rock, pH level, water availability, dissolved gases, level of pollutant
