SAE Aero East Dejah – I still think the idea of simulating a flight by introducing the team as a flight attendant is a cute idea. If we want to role with it, I would totally be ok with doing it. Jameson Benbow, Tyler Britt, Hillary Gill, Rahel Hagos, James Howell, Eric Jones, Hector Gortaire, Santos Militar, Michael Reyes, Jonleemar Redford, Andrew Robeson, Dejah Singh

Objective Design and build a model aircraft Payload Controllable
In accordance with the 2016 SAE Aero East rules Eric Jones – Restate the objective of our project. You can mention the significance of the competition/what it means to ODU if you want. Otherwise, you can keep it pretty straightforward. “Payload” means that our goal was payload-based, as in we had to lift as heavy of a payload as possible. Keep this under a minute.

Gantt Chart Rahel - The updated Gantt Chart will be loaded here shortly. State that we had an aggressive schedule in that the planning, design and partial build had to be completed last semester. Emphasize the fact that test flights had to be completed before the competition, and that we completed more flights (12 rounds in total) than most teams represented during the competition. By March 11th (the first day of competition) ODU was ready to compete and proved to be a force to be reckoned with at the competition. Keep this section under a minute.

Completed Work: Test Flights
Begin Payload Increments Maximum Weight of 15lbs Flight 3: Maximum Weight of 17lbs Runway Overrun Flight 4: Maximum Weight of 20lbs Competition Ready! Jonleemar – Most of the information is on the slide. Mention the fact that we needed to increment the weights slowly for safety of the aircraft. Also mention that the 4th flight realized our original design prediction. Keep this section under a minute

Completed Work: CG Machine
Balanced Verified accuracy with scales 𝑋 𝑐𝑐 = 𝑤 𝑚 𝑥 𝑚 + 𝑤 𝑛 𝑥 𝑛 𝑤 𝑚 + 𝑤 𝑛 Tyler – Talk about the importance of the center of gravity in flying and how the first iteration of this design needed to be refined. Mention that it was then balanced, and then verified with scales. Keep this section to about 30 seconds.

Completed Work: Competition
35 Regular Class Competitors Written Report Due 1/25/2016 Placed 3rd Oral Report Timed loading/unloading Presentation about design Placed 13th Flight Rounds 4 total rounds 4 successful flights Maximum weight of lbs at density altitude 925ft Placed 5th Eric – Summarize the results of the competition, most of the information is on the slide. Written report section was already submitted and graded by the time we got there. The oral report had the timed loading and unloading that each had to be under a minute long. The competition people try to get as many flights in as possible, and we got in 4 during the competition. We were one of 4 teams to successfully fly all 4 rounds, and this was due to a great design and wonderful piloting by Brian. We went past our predicted payload in order to stay competitive. You don’t have to put all of that in there, I just wanted to give you as much background as possible. Keep this slide to about a minute.

Future Work Test Flights Wing Structural Testing New Plane Design
CG Machine Jonleemar – Test Flights: We didn’t achieve the experimental value of our maximum payload capacity. We pushed our limits during competition but believe we could have gone further. We need to do more flights to determine the true maximum payload. 30 seconds max Tyler - Wing Structural Testing: The wing was overbuilt for its designed lifting capacity, partially due to the added strength of the coating used and not modeled. This adds strength to the wing, and if we use its strength, we can reduce the structure of the wing and reduce weight. 30 seconds max Rahel – New Design: After seeing the designs of the planes that lifted more than us during the competition, we learned some strategies that may be able to be incorporated to the 2017 plane that will increase lifting capacity. 30 seconds max Tyler – The CG machine, though balanced, can be improved in end-user design. There is room for improvement in making it more adjustable and accurate. 30 seconds max

Conclusion ODU SAE Aero East Team was extremely competitive for the 2016 competition 5th place overall Room to improve Rahel – Emphasize how well we did during the competition, placing 5th overall between the 3 aspects of the competition (written report, oral report, and flight rounds). Mention that though we were very successful and met the personal objectives of the team (making it to the top 10), there are still ways that we can improve our aircraft to increase the lifting capacity and be even more competitive for the competitions to come. 30 seconds max.
