1 Plugged In Children are introduced to another form of energy where appliances are plugged into a socket. In the following ‘Plugged in’ pictures Guzzler is playing with a computer game which unplugs leaving Guzzler confused The children have to think about why Guzzler’s computer game has stopped working. Children also re-cap on other sources of energy - petrol for car and food for Guzzler

2 Questions to promote discussion:
How does Guzzler look? How do you think he feels? Why do you think Guzzler’s game is working? Where does the game get its energy? When the game is plugged in what can it do? Where does the energy go from the plug? Why are there 2 plugs in the picture? What other appliance is plugged in to an energy source?

3 Questions to promote discussion:
How does Guzzler look? How do you think he feels? Why do you think Guzzler’s game is not working? What happened? Where did the game get its energy? When the game was plugged in what could it do? If either one of the appliances was plugged in, could Guzzler continue with his game? Why not?

4 Can you remember? Do you remember why Guzzler's car stopped? What do you see in the circle What do you notice about the fuel gauge? What do the letters E and F stand for? Where did the car get its energy from? When the car had petrol what could it do? What does Guzzler need to do to get the car going again? Could Guzzler give the car some of his food? Why not? Could Guzzler plug this car into a socket? Why not?

5 What have we learned? When Guzzler had dinner what could he do? Did Guzzler, the car and the game all get energy from the same place? Where did Guzzler get his energy from? What does Guzzler need to do to keep his energy high?

6 Sorting activity Class discussion to sort the images into the correct containers - Guzzler has energy Guzzler has no energy Qs: How do you know? How is he feeling? Why? etc Next slide reveals the solution.

7 Were your predictions correct?
