Throughout this course you will learn a lot about the workplace Our main focuses will be: Language Culture Finding work Interviewing Building Resumes Highlighting skills Every other week we will have access to the computer lab Access to the computer will allow us to put some of our ideas into practice

9 What is a resume? Pronounced ‘reh-zum-ay’
It is a professional tool which displays your professional experience Relevant experience and skills should be listed Most employers require a resume to apply for a job Important to tailor your resume for the job you’re applying for

10 What does a good resume look like?
The format of your resume is just as important as the content of your resume It is very important that your resume is neat and properly formatted The average employer looks at your resume for 15 seconds Your resume is a representation of you If your resume isn’t professional, you will be seen as unprofessional Transition to

11 Contact information It’s important to make sure the employer knows the best way to get in touch with you Make sure you have an appropriate address Please list what type of phone number you are listing Make sure your voic is clear

12 Education List your highest level of education
Note the location and years your attended Also list any interesting activities you may have done

13 Work experience List the places you have worked in ‘reverse chronological order’ List the company, its location, your title, and the dates you worked there List your responsibilities Important to have good word choice

14 Skills Computer – what programs can you use?
Language – which ones do you speak? How well? Soft skills – how would a friend describe you? Job specific skills Cleaning Construction Cooking

15 Make your own! Using the resume template in your folder, fill out your resume so you can start thinking about putting describing your professional experience We will use this as a guideline when we make our resumes on computer
