She lived to be 86 and helped in the over all process Olive Gilbert wrote Sojourners story in 1850

3 Slavery and Sojourner Sojourner Truth was born a slave
She was moved from Ulster county, New York to John Dumont’s estate She was promised her freedom if she worked extra hard Her slave owner did not set her free after she hurt her wrist in an accident

4 SELF FREEDOM After not being freed by her owner Sojourner ran off the property taking her daughter Unfortunately her son Peter was sold illegally to Alabama

5 The winning of Sojourner Truth
Truth testified in court and won a court case for the illegal sale of her son She was the first black woman to win a court battle against a white man

Ain’t I a woman? Speech was a famous work from Sojourner truth The work that she did was not only about women’s rights but also non-slavery Sojourner truth was once threatened by someone to burn the building she spoke at. After threatened she said “I will speak upon it’s ashes!” Sojourner Truth’s work is very expressive of what she felt and how others felt.

7 Ain’t I a woman? “ Well children , where there is racket there must be something out of kilter. I think that twixt the negroes of the south and the women of the north,all talking about rights ,the white men will be in a fix pretty soon.But what’s all this talking about rights.” That paragraph is the frist in Ain’t I a woman? It is a great speech that inspired the fight for women’s rights in many people.

She had a never ending desire for the truth All her work was for a purpose… to free slaves and for getting rights for women.
