1 TOWN OF Penetanguishene Payette Reservoir Upgrades
July 24, 2014

2 Welcome and Introductions
2 C.C. Tatham & Associates Ltd.: Rod Langford, C.E.T., Project Manager Suzanne Troxler, M.Sc., P.Eng., Manager – Environmental Engineering Town of Penetanguishene: Bryan Murray, P.Eng., Director of Public Works Moe Lefaive, C.Tech., Chief Operator, Water Division

3 Project Purpose Implement recommendations of 2012 Class EA Study.
3 Implement recommendations of 2012 Class EA Study. Replace aging drinking water reservoir at Payette Drive.

4 Existing Drinking Water System
4 Payette DWS: 3 groundwater supply wells 3 water reservoirs (1 on-site, 2 off-site) 1 pump house 4 pressure zones Water Storage: Payette Drive Reservoir Robert Street West Reservoir Centennial Drive Elevated Tank

5 Existing Payette DWS Site
Reservoir Well No. 2 Well No. 3 Well No. 1 Church Street Pumphouse Payette Drive Existing Payette DWS Site

6 Payette Drive Reservoir
Constructed in 1910 (104 yrs old) Above-grade, earth berm around it 1,100 m³ capacity

7 Robert Street West Reservoir
Constructed in 1931 (83 yrs old) Partially above-grade 1,100 m³ capacity

8 Centennial Drive Elevated Tank
Constructed in 1993 (21 yrs old) Entirely above-grade/elevated 5,000 m³ capacity

9 2012 Class EA Study 9 Payette Drive and Robert Street West reservoirs approaching end of life. Need to be replaced to prevent failure and loss of service. Preferred solution is to construct new reservoir at Payette Drive site. Then decommission Payette Drive and Robert Street West reservoirs.

10 Preliminary Design of Upgrades
10 Existing Payette Drive reservoir is 15.5 m diameter and 6.5 m high. Cast-in-place concrete, above-grade and bermed with earth all around. No redundancy. Difficult to service without taking off-line, causing service interruptions. New Payette reservoir capacity: 2,200 m³ (combined capacity of existing Payette Drive and Robert Street West reservoirs).

11 Preliminary Design of Upgrades
11 Two above-grade reservoirs, each 12.8 m diameter and 8.5 m high, 1,100 m³ capacity (2,200 m³ total). Proposed location is generally behind existing reservoir berm.

19 Benefits of Proposed Reservoirs
19 Glass-coated steel construction. Requires very little exterior maintenance. Not bermed around. Easier access for inspection, maintenance and repair. Two reservoirs allows one to remain in service if other is off-line, providing uninterrupted water supply. 2 m of additional height improves operating pressure in lower zones.

20 Benefits of Proposed Reservoirs
20 Reduces overall operating costs. Optimized site layout: less excavation and piping, few changes to green and open spaces. Limited and short-term interruptions to water supply.

21 Schedule Complete design and obtain approvals in 2014.
