4. Are they plants?
Once upon a time these organism were considered plants.
But alas they are not for the following 2 reasons…

5. 1. Absorption of Nutrients
Heterotrophic  gather nutrients from their environment (no photosynthesis)
Nutrients digested externally before being absorbed  by slender filaments called hyphae (attached to the substrate)

6. 2. Reproduction
Fungi can reproduce in a variety of ways: both sexually and asexually. Sometimes using fragmentation and budding, but always using spores
Often the only visible portion of the fungi are its reproductive structures (mushrooms and molds)

Spore opens and new hypha develops
Hypha develops into a mature fungi which will reproduce spores
