1 HIGH PRICE

2 New Living Translation
COMMENTARY I want my way and you want your way, and neither of us will give in. This is a familiar story, whether in business, in marriage, in parent-child relationships, or in any relationship. Compromise is the art of negotiation so that both sides win.

3 New Living Translation
COMMENTARY There is a time to compromise – by giving a little each side gains much. However, there is a time not to compromise. To compromise God’s truth or God’s ways, or God’s Word, or our Christians life, is to negotiate away that which is holy.

4 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (TLB) 14Don’t be teamed with those who do not love the Lord, for what do the people of God have in common with the people of sin? How can light live with darkness? 15And what harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a Christian be a partner with one who doesn’t believe? 16And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols?

5 For you are God’s temple, the home of the living God, and God has said of you, "I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God and they shall be my people." 17That is why the Lord has said, "Leave them; separate yourselves from them; don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you 18 and be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters."

6 1. LIVING A SEPARATED LIFE

7 As followers of Jesus Christ we are to live
a life distinctively different from those who do not follow Christ.

8 Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

9 Salt was a preservative

10 Salt was a flavor enhancer

11 Salt has a positive influence

12 Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven”

13 What Does Compromise Look Like?

14 Not being Yoked, Teamed Up, or Partners With UNBELIEVERS.

15 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
2 Corinthians 6:14 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.

16 Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
2 Corinthians 6:15 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?

17 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
2 Corinthians 6:14 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.

18 Genesis 2:24 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

19 Deuteronomy 7:4 (ESV) 4 they will turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you...

21 3. The Progressive Nature
of Compromise

22 Psalm 1:1-6 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

23 Psalm 1:1-6 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

29 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 (NLT) 14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15  What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?

30 Romans 12:2 (NLT) 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
