1 7th Grade Reading August 7-11

2 Warm-Up August 7,2017 (2 minutes)
Come in and grab a “Reading List” from the front shelf. Get out all materials and begin setting up your binder. 2-3 Dividers: Warm-Ups, Keepers/Handouts, and Reading List/Log (this can be put at the beginning of your binder as just a handout or you can use it as another section). Write your name, period, and title: “Vocabulary Book” on your composition notebook it. Please put your composition notebook in your period’s basket on the door side wall.

3 Lexile What is a Lexile? It is a measure of someone’s reading ability
Measures how difficult a text is How is a Lexile measured in a book? Based off sentence length, the number of words, The type of words or vocabulary used. If a book has more familiar words and generic terms it is going to be given a lower lexile. Lexile Level by the end of 7th Grade:

No talking during this test – Be aware of the power cords around you. – Try not to step on them Login into your computer with your lunch number and password. SRI Click Scholastic Student Access Icon Login: Username is your lunch number; Password is your lunch number On the Bottom Left hand side click “ Reading Inventory” READ THE DIRECTIONS; If it asks you to pick your favorite genre pick your favorite genre if it asks you to pick your favorite three genres PICK 3!

5 When Finished with Your SRI
Sign up and apply for Hince’s Helpers on blog if you would like to participate (make sure to fill out the entire form). To get to this page click on the “Hince’s Helpers” tab. Finish SnapShot of You and turn into Mr. Hince (this should be completed for HW if not finished). Go to Mr. Hince’s blog and click on the “Book Recommendation” Tab. on the right hand side of the tab. Look for books to check out for Wednesday when we go to the library. If you have a book you read over the summer that you would like to recommend, you may write a recommendation at the bottom of this page (Recommend Your Books!) Finish setting up Binder and Materials.

6 Snapchat, Snap Shot of you
You will have two options: 1. Independently, on the piece of paper provided, create a Snap Chat for yourself by drawing and writing the following: Top left a picture or “selfie” of you! Top Right A “snapshot” of your favorite place, thing, or idea and why? Bottom Left – The person who influences you. Include why. Bottom Right - What you like about reading and what ways you think you could be a strategic reader. Back – 3-5 interests you have –This can be your favorite hobbies, food, or things you like to do.
