1 Unicellular Organisms

2 Unicellular Organisms
Definition: Unicellular organism – an organism made of only one cell Examples: Bacteria Unicellular yeast Amoeba

3 Small and Simple Unicellular organisms have a simple body construction because they are made up of only ONE cell Since these organisms contain only one cell, you have to use a microscope to see them Unicellular organisms are therefore known as microscopic organisms

4 A “one cell” team Unicellular organisms are living things and therefore must carry out the essential functions of a living cell. Such as transportation, respiration and synthesis of molecules Since these organisms only contain one cell, all of these essential life functions are carried out by this ONE cell!! More specifically, these life functions are being carried out by the organelles of this one cell.

5 Just Imagine Just imagine if your teacher Ms. Blalock was not only your teacher but… The principal of FHSA The assistant principal The math teacher The history teacher The school safety officer I would have to play all of these roles to keep FHSA in control and functioning as a good high school

6 In a sense, unicellular organisms are doing the same thing.
The organelles of the one cell have to do all the necessary jobs to keep the bacteria alive

7 Multicellular Organisms

8 Multicellular Organisms
Definition: Multicellular organism – an organism made of two or more cells Examples: Humans Animals Plants

9 Complex Multicellular organisms have a complex body structure (organization) because they are made up of lots of cells Since these organisms are made up of many cells, they can be seen with the naked eye This means that you do not have to use a microscope to see them

10 Many players in the game
Since multicellular organisms are made up of many different cells, each of these different cells has a specific function(s) This means that all of the cells of the organism are doing different functions and working together to keep the organism alive

11 All of these different cells work together to keep us alive

12 How is our school ran? Here at FHSA, we have different people performing different jobs. We have different people for each of the necessary jobs of the school (principal, assistant principal, science teacher, etc.) Each person has a different job with a common goal of keeping the school functioning at its best
