1 Welcome back to “Your Child’s Seat” Thank you for coming today.

2 Topics to be covered General routines (coming in and out, homework, expectations about independence etc ) all seem fine. Reading Record books (weekly spellings, test results.) Spelling words will now be coming home on a Friday to be tested the following Friday. Reading (changing of books, hearing children read etc)

3 Reading Challenge If your child reads 3 times or more in one week, they receive a tick. When 10 ticks are achieved they receive a special book mark. The next award is silver for 20 ticks (10 additional ticks to the 10 already achieved for Bronze) Please remember to add any reading activity to the Reading Record Book. (It does not have to be reading of their school book only.)

4 Topics to discuss cont. Planned trips/events
Explorers Day Tues 1st May (children to come in “camouflaged coloured clothing….green, brown, beige etc”) Dino Day on Wed 23rd May. Volunteering in school. A big thank you to all those parents who help on trips etc! Talents? Which ones do your children have? Let’s celebrate them! Thank you for filling in the forms. PE. Come to school in PE kit. All fine Please remember to purchase new kit from the uniform list. This list can be found on the website or PE board in school.

5 KS1 Year 2 SATs Your child’s teacher is responsible for judging the standards your child is working at in English, Maths and Science, by the end of Key Stage 1. To help inform those judgements, pupils sit national curriculum tests in English and Maths, commonly called SATs. They may also sit an optional test in English grammar, punctuation and spelling. The tests are a tool for teachers to help them measure your child’s performance and identify their needs as they move into key stage 2. They also allow teachers to see how your child is performing against national expected standards. The tests can be taken any time during May and they are not strictly timed. Pupils may not even know they are taking them as many teachers will incorporate them into everyday classroom activities.

6 The Tests English reading short text and questions English reading long text with separate questions Mathematics Arithmetic paper. Mathematical Reasoning paper. We will use the results from these tests, along with the work your child has done throughout the year, to help us reach our own judgements about how your child is progressing at the end of Key Stage 1. Our teacher assessment judgements will be reported to you by the end of the summer term.

7 What we are looking for….
The children need to form all of their letters accurately and carefully. They need to use joining words for their sentences (conjunctions) like and, because, when, but etc to make them longer and more exciting to read. They need to spell carefully “Fred Talking” the words to make the best effort to write every sound, correctly. Ensure that they punctuate carefully and accurately and not just with CL and FS but speech, question, exclamation marks, commas and apostrophes too. We will not mention the “SAT’s” to the children at all and hopefully they won’t even know that they have taken them.

8 And in Maths … To partition a number into different combinations of tens and ones Add two 2-digit numbers Mentally subtract a two 2-digit number from another 2-digit number Recognise the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and use this knowledge to solve missing number problems, such as [] – 14 = 28 Recall and use the multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables Identify the fractions 1/3, ¼, 2/4, ¾ Use different coins to make the same amount Read time on a clock to 15 minutes.

9 In Year 4 !! This current cohort is due to sit a multiplication test in Year 4, based on all the tables to 12 x 12. We are currently working on updating the 99 club to bring it more in line to support the children’s progress to be ready for this test. By the end of Year 2, children should know their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. By the end of Year 3, children should also know their 4, 6, 8 and 9 times tables. In Year 4, the children will cover the 7, 11 and 12 times tables ready for the test in the Summer term.

10 And finally…. We have an open door policy.
If you have any questions please see either of us.

11 Thank you so much for coming today
