Game Theory Activity Split into 4 groups, each representing an engineering company Negotiation Scenario: AUD$1 billion Request for Tender – to build 6 new bridges over a large river in Upper Volta Rumour that Government of Upper Volta wants to award the work to 6 different companies each doing one bridge (therefore two bridges will be done by overseas companies) or all of it will go to a consortium (minimum of two companies) Have each group negotiate with each other (keeping the results of agreements secret) decide your strategic goals and how you would apply game theory to win the RFT. Post Game Reflections: What did each agree to in the end? What games were played and their impact?

Scenario Planning Split into 4 groups, each a company wanting to enter a selected country - pick you country Your company wants to build a nuclear power plant in your chosen country, to bolster its current energy system under pressure from a rapid increase in demand from industry. Select 2 issues you think are importance Break up the issues into 4 high/low trend scenario options For each scenario, anticipate what would happen and the impact on your choice of entry . For example: consider a government policy issue – where the main opposition party wants “green power” and the current ruling party accepts all offers, and there is an election in year 1. Assume that cost of enriched Uranium required for the plant is changing - in 2 possible directions: (a) More uranium is available now and future prices would drop; (b) Uranium is getting scarce and future prices are likely to rise. Therefore there are 4 scenarios for this govt policy issue: Option 1 Uranium scarce - Green Power in Option 2 Uranium scarce- current party wins election Option 3 abundant - Green party wins Option 4 Uranium abundant - Current party wins
