Scholarships are awarded because the student has qualified for or won it. Education grants and scholarships do not require repayment. Work-Study Programs Federal and State Work-Study Programs provide jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the course of study. Student Loans A student loan is designed to help students pay for tuition, books and living expenses. Student loans may differ from other types of loans in that the interest rate may be substantially lower and the repayment schedule may be deferred while the student is in higher education. FAFSA applications will be available October 1 rather than January 1. The FAFSA will use income information from two years prior to the current academic year instead of the previous year. We encourage students to apply by April 1. If the FAFSA is submitted after the dates below funds may not be available by the start of the semester.
