Digital loop checks using SPI data and the document management system. Achieving more with less. Eliminates time consuming paper processes. For a 15,000 loop check project, it was estimated that the paper printouts for the loop check folders would stack 15 meters high (50 feet). Fully utilizes SmartPlant P&ID and Instrumentation data for defining TCP numbers. Integrates the Document Management System for automatic document retrieval to the loop check packages on the tablets. Mobile tablets/loop check packages work out on the plant without Wi-Fi availability.

Digital loop checks using SPI data. Achieve more with less. Simplifies the loop check sheets by including only required data fields by instrument types and specific Field and Control check sheets. Automatically populates check sheets with required SPI design data. Simplifies user input as much as possible by using check boxes and selection lists including failure codes. Manages the results with real time reports and status of passed and failed loops at the end of each day on the loop check review portal as well as automatic reporting.

Pre-Loop Check Data and Document Audits All the same problems with missing data and documents as paper loop checks. Use INAuditPro to check SPI for related data specifically required on the loop check sheets. Vendor Packages? Extract vendor document names from document management system for datasheets, loops/wiring and import into SPI Index UDFs associated to the related index tags. The project required all vendor data/datasheets and wiring to be input into SPI, but this was not always the case.

How are the tablet data packages created? We have developed INSync; a product that generates zipped data packages for INView Anywhere from the SPI Database. INSync is a database service that automatically synchronizes the SPI data into the INSync database from which the data packages for the tablets are created. The automatic SPI synchronization intervals are set by the INSync admin. INView Anywhere data packages are created with a stale date defined by the INSync Admin to ensure the latest data is used. Data packages can be refreshed at or before the stale date.

Issues/Problems During the Loop Check Project New processes to learn with not just a single check sheet for the loop. Users not checking all instrument check sheets had been completed before uploading. Not marking failed loops for uploading. Re-Issued failed loops not processed. Published loop(s) to completions DB and had to retrieve/un- publish sometimes.

Remedies Added rules to the software: If all check sheets in the loop are not completed with a status, prompt user when they close it and colour code it accordingly. Colour codes implemented: Red/Failed, Green/Passed, Blue/Incomplete. Added toggle to indicate which loops on the tablet are ready for batch upload. Added icon on tablet to indicate if a package had been opened or not. Added a function to UN-Publish a loop from Completions database.

Cost Savings An EPC quoted $775k for compiling and managing paper loop check packages for three units comprising 6,000 loops which is 40% of the total project loops. This did NOT include performing the actual Loop Checks. Cost per loop check package $ per loop check package. EPC Cost for the complete Project 15000x $129 = $1.94M The actual cost for 15,000 digital INLoop Check packages, including compiling, managing and user training was $615K. This included all reporting and electronically publishing to the Completions DB. Cost per tablet Loop Check Package was $41 with no additional printing or paper costs. Minimum Direct cost saving to the project using INLoop Check tablets $1.325M Going green and making it paperless saved a stack of paper 50 feet high. This would be approximately 34 boxes of each = $1, not including printing costs. No credit has been taken for the just-in-time efficiency of compiling digital packages with the latest document revisions (refresh) and not having to rework paper packages. Average of 15 tablet pairs (Field & Control) used per day with a saving of 1 hour/day per tablet pair = 300 hours per month x 1.4 years = over 4,200 hrs.
