4 Starter William died on September 9, 1087.
William led an active life, but had become quite fat! He decided to travel to France to go on a special diet. On the way, he visited a town that had rebelled against him and burnt it down. William’s horse stepped on a burning cinder and threw him into the pommel, made from steel. William suffered serious internal injuries! He went into a coma and died. On the day of his funeral, his bloated body would not fit into the coffin! On one of the hottest days of the year, they tried to force his body into the coffin. He exploded. Starter William died on September 9, 1087. What or who do you think killed William the Conqueror? Discuss with the person next to you.

5 Task Read the sources you have been given about the King.
Write down his strengths and weaknesses in the correct column. Each source might have more than one! Strengths Weaknesses 10 minutes

6 Task Choice A) Design a poster explaining what King William’s strengths and weaknesses were. Illustrate your poster showing what you have explained. B) King William is dead – write an obituary for him. Explain who he was, what he did, and what strengths and weaknesses he had. Extension: Describe with illustrations how King William died. 20 minutes An obituary is a news article that reports the recent death of a person, typically along with an account of the person's life.
