Our Mission We serve students who are academically at-risk in small group, school-based, targeted intervention programs. We have served more than 60,000 students nationwide since 2005 in rural, suburban and urban districts. 99% of the students are eligible for free or reduced price lunch.
4
Who We Are Built upon the proven Sylvan foundation of 30+ years of education research and results, we partner with educators to deliver engaging, effective, and efficient tutoring programs that target their students’ needs. Ace it! Tutoring franchisees are educators’ local partners and neighbors who are active and committed community members. With deep local roots, they know the area’s schools, teachers and parents.
5
What We Do Our proven reading and math programs help educators address a wide range of targeted academic needs, including: Afterschool tutoring Summer school Algebra I support Test preparation School Improvement RTI programs ELL support All of our targeted intervention programs are aligned to state standards to help students learn essential skills
6
Program Objectives Achieve academic improvement
Targeted to essential skills in reading and math Reading grades K-8 Math grades 1-8 and Algebra I Specifically designed to meet the needs of low achieving students Efficient solution to targeted intervention needs Enjoyable and inspiring learning experience
7
Your Solution National Data Local Data
20–30 percent of students need targeted intervention aimed at remediating specific skill deficits of students. In , 20 percent of Title I schools (10,781 schools) were identified for improvement; about one-fourth missed AYP solely due to the achievement of a single subgroup. 10% of all K-12 public school students nationally attend a school that has not made AYP for 3 or more years. Local Data How many Title I schools? How many schools in improvement? How many students need targeted intervention?

Research Base The Reading curriculum is based current research, including the National Reading Panel (NRP) Designed to be systematic, explicit and intensive The Math curriculum is based on current research, including the NCTM Focal Points and Principles and Standards for School Mathematics Designed to build conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and automatic recall of facts Small group instruction, cooperative learning and peer tutoring have all been proven by research to improve learning; when combined in our programs, the effect is powerful. In-person, small class instruction to meet individual student needs. starts with an assessment to determine specific learning needs students are placed in small classes (no more than 8 per class) based on their learning needs and ability levels teachers provide instruction on learning objectives, motivate students and reward them for their achievement and effort All Ace it! Tutoring programs are aligned to state and district standards to help students learn skills that are on standardized tests
10
Research Base “The most practical method for increasing instructional intensity for small numbers of highly at-risk students is to provide small-group instruction. There can be no question that children with reading disabilities, or children at risk for these disabilities, will learn more rapidly under conditions of greater instructional intensity than they learn in typical classroom settings” (Foorman & Torgesen, 2001).

Efficacy Studies States included: Pennsylvania Texas Virginia
Independent 3rd Party research has been conducted to verify the efficacy of the Ace it! Reading and Math curriculum ( States included: Pennsylvania Texas Virginia
12
Student Growth Efficacy studies found that students made significant gains in both reading and math on the GRADE and the GMADE Increase of 7.3 percentile points in reading Increase of 10.5 percentile points in math These gains suggest that Ace it! students are catching up relative to their national peers.

Implementation Model Students are placed in small, homogenous groups
Average 6 students per group Placement based on instructional level All lessons are one hour in length Multiple hour delivery available 34+ hour program 30+ hours of instruction 30 hour core program Additional material available to add 5-10 hours of additional instruction 4 hours for pre and post assessment Delivered before/after school, during school, summer In-person, small class instruction to meet individual student needs. starts with an assessment to determine specific learning needs students are placed in small classes (no more than 8 per class) based on their learning needs and ability levels teachers provide instruction on learning objectives, motivate students and reward them for their achievement and effort All Ace it! Reading Content Overview

Reading Lesson Design In-depth three-lesson skill sequence
Every lesson includes word analysis, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension Core reading skills at each grade level Guided practice moves to applied practice Differentiation is part of each lesson The “Ace it!” Tutoring reading program is based around the 4 areas of reading instruction: Word Analysis (phonemic awareness, phonics, and word study), fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Every lesson addresses those four areas, except in Kindergarten when fluency instruction is not yet appropriate. We teach the skills in a three-lesson sequence. Throughout the three lesson sequence from first lesson of each sequence to the third lesson in the sequence the instruction moves from more of an emphasis on guided practice to a heavier emphasis on independent and applied work. Throughout the lesson there are opportunities to use activities to adjust the lesson up or down for individual students. The differentiation activities vary. Often these are activities that the students complete on their dry-erase boards, but there are times when it is a modification to the resource sheet.

Reading Materials Anthology Student Resource Book Dry erase boards
Manipulatives for Kindergarten level Letter Tile Tubs Alphabet Photo Cards Wikki Sticks Alpha Tales boxed set The Ace it! Reading Student materials are: Anthology – which contains all of the stories the students read Student Resource Book – for daily written work and practice in those 4 areas of reading instruction Dry erase board – makes lessons interactive and fun Manipulatives at the kindergarten level – when practicing letter recognition and ordering Reading curriculum is published in partnership with Harcourt Achieve, Inc.

Math Content Overview

Math Lesson Design Two-lesson in-depth study of each skill
Daily basic fact practice Problem solving included for each skill Additional problem solving lessons Core math skills at each level Concrete work moves to abstract Students communicate orally and in writing Focused on core skills at each level Two lesson in-depth study of each skill – make sure time is spent on the skills and students understand before moving on Problem solving part of lessons for each skill – word problems and problem solving part of two lesson sequence on each skill Additional problem solving lessons – mid way and at the end of the program specific lessons built in that focus on problem solving and are a review of the previous skills taught Daily basic fact practice – basic fact practice part of every lesson Start with concrete work and move to abstract – skill introduced with manipulatives and pictorial models moves to abstract work with pencil and paper Students communicate mathematically orally and in writing – teacher constantly asking questions, using techniques to involve the entire class, students also must answer questions in writing both solving computation and explaining their reasoning
25
Math Materials Manipulatives Student Resource Books Dry erase boards
Main student materials are: Manipulatives - used to introduce skills and practice basic facts Student Resource Books – written record of student work, all in one place, opportunities for students to explain in their own words how the skill works, becomes a reference tool for the students Dry erase boards – make lessons fun and interactive
