The First President: George Washington Seen as honest, hero of Revolution. 1st presidential election held in 1789. Electoral college unanimously chose Washington. John Adams served as vice-president.

Americans’ Expectations for the Nation: New York City was nations first capital. Bustling economy New York Stock Exchange founded in 1792. By 1790, population was 33,000.
