1 CS 6021 Advance Architecture Project
Dr. Clincy Professor of CS Objective: Use commercial grade circuit design system to build an advanced “integrated” circuit given the truth tables. Notice: Will cover Lecture 9 online today Dr. Clincy Slide 1 1

2 Project Description Table 2 Circuit Table 5 Circuit Table 1 Circuit

3 Project Description Table 1 Circuit Table 2 Circuit Table 5 Circuit Table 3 Circuit Table 4 Circuit F2 through F0 act as both output for circuit 1, as well as input to circuits 2-5 Light probes should also be connected to all outputs of all circuits for testing purposes All inputs to secondary circuits should have switches in allowing the tester to send variable inputs to the secondary circuits given the main circuit has enabled the secondary circuit Circuit 1’s F2 is the MSB if 3 bits are used for input. Circuit 1’s F1 is the MSB if 2 bits are used for input. In both cases, F0 is the LSB for input Every student will have completely different set of circuits All circuits must be reduced to their lowest terms prior to building the circuits Each student is responsible for understanding how to connect the different circuits Dr. Clincy Slide 3 3

5 Advanced Architecture Project
Your reduced boolean functions should be uploaded by 10/3/18 at 5pm - 5% penalty per hour late Your presentations will need to be in powerpoint – Deadline to upload to D2L will be 10/17/18 at 5pm – 5% penalty per hour late Deadline to upload multisim file(s) to D2L will be 10/17/18 at 5pm – 5% penalty per hour late Each student must be prepared to test the circuit the day of their presentation. Multisim will be running on the Instructor PC in the classroom. 4 minutes will be allocated at the end of the presentation for the testing. The Professor will dictate the testing We will have only 8 minutes for the presentation and 4 minutes for testing and therefore, the student must be ready and prepared on their presentation day. The presentations will be posted on the course web page. You will run and test the circuit you uploaded to D2L. Although a circuit test will occur in the class room during the presentation time, the Professor reserves the right to further test the circuit after the presentation if there was not enough time to complete the testing – your circuit completion and testing grade will be based on ALL testing and not just the 4-minute circuit testing that occurred in the classroom Dr. Clincy 5

6 Advanced Architecture Project
Your presentation should be 8 minutes Docked 5-points /minute for going over or below time limit of 8 minutes Graded on (1) boolean functions (35%), (2) multisim test (45%) and (3) presentation (20%) Your presentation should include and overview the following: (1) A high-level explanation of how your circuit should work, (2) Upfront, make the audience aware if you think your circuit is working correctly or not and if not, why. (3) Answer the question: Are the reduced equations submitted on 10/3/18 the same reduced equations actually implemented … or did the you discover there were some issues or errors with some of the reduced equations submitted on 10/3/18 ? (4) display all initial standard equations and all final reduced equations (not the steps in deriving the final equations), (5) all individual circuits and the final integrated circuit, and (6) your perception or opinion regarding Multisim’s features used for the CS6021 advanced architecture project (only 10% of Multisim’s features – not interested in your opinion of Multisim’s numerous other features not used). Your presentation will be graded on how well you COMPLETELY present items 1-6 listed above in 8 minutes You will have another 4 minutes for testing your circuit in real-time. You need to be prepared to demonstrate your circuit’s functionality. The Professor will dictate the testing You will need to upload the Multisim file(s) you will use for testing. You should determine what file(s) is/are need to be uploaded that will allow you to demonstrate your circuit on your presentation date.

7 Presentation Dates October 18th – 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13
October 23rd – 2, 5, 8 and 11 October 25th – 3, 6, 9 and 12 You need to ONLY show up on the day you present Dr. Clincy

8 Misc Notices The gates you should used are posted on your website
An illustration of using Multisim is posted on your website An illustration of converting a circuit to the black box is posted on your website Instructions in using the virtual desktop in getting access to Multisim is posted to your website (cseview.kennesaw.edu) Multisim is listed under “NI” for National Instruments Per the syllabus, you will get (1) rest of this day, (2) partly October 2nd, October 9th (no class) and October 16th (no class) to work on the advance architecture project. The advanced assembly programming project will be rolled out on October 2nd – advice: try to make significant progress on the architecture project by October 2nd. Per the syllabus, you will get (1) partly October 2nd, October 9th (no class) and October 16th (no class) to work on both the advanced assembly and architecture projects. Dr. Clincy
