2 Intro to Technology/Engineering
4 steps of EDP: EDP Taco Party

3 Intended Benefit & Unintended Consequence
UC - outcomes that are not the ones foreseen and intended by a purposeful action. Could you have an Unintended benefit? IB - something purposely done to help people do things Could you have an intended consequence?

4 Top 10 Inventions That Changed The World
Top 10 Inventions Thought Up By Kids Top 5 Future Technology Inventions

5 Tech & Eng Notes T/E.1: How to test a prototype?
T/E.2: Was the EDP correctly applied? T/E.3: What’s the diff btwn intended benefits & unintended consequences? T/E.4: What’s the diff btwn an adaptive & an assistive device?

6 Tech EDP used to solve problems & make life easier created by EDP “engineering design process”

7 Steps of EDP (“ISIE”): 1. Identify the Problem 2. Solution Design 3. Implementation & Testing 4. Evaluate has to be a need or want research, brainstorm several solutions, risks & benefits, drawings create prototype & test it Improvements? Successful

8 Unintended consequences: how ppl’s needs are met or helped
Intended Benefits: Unintended consequences: (Vehicles developed years ago benefited millions – Pollution to Earth) how ppl’s needs are met or helped effect of tech AFTER created & used

9 Bioengineering is… use the science of living things to create new tech Medical: tools, treat diseases, help with disabilities Ag: improve crops (disease resistant, taste better, herbicides) Biofuels: ethanol

10 Assistive – created SPECIFICALLY to help ppl
Other EDP tech: Assistive – created SPECIFICALLY to help ppl ex. crutches, hearing aid Adaptive – already created but CHANGED to help ppl ex. Braille keyboard

11 EDP Practice Write each statement & name the step of the EDP in which it belongs. 1. A prototype is created & tested on a computer. 2. Improvements? Meet need? Successful? Low risks? 3. A need or problem has been discovered. 4. Research on costs & materials, risks & benefits analyzed, drawings, how will it work?

12 KNOWLEDGE: What is the difference between an adaptive & an assistive device?

13 JJ: Write the step of the EDP that each describes.
1. make & test prototype 2. decide that technology can solve a problem 3. brainstorm, make drawings, research 4. what should be improved? What worked?
