The Dog Meat Trade This PowerPoint is Brought to You By… Save the Dogs Foundation

2 What it is… The dog meat trade is a horrendous trade in which dogs are slaughtered for their meat, skin, teeth, organs etc. Though much of the world views dogs as trusted companions or protectors, in South East and East Asia they suffer terribly as victims of the trade in dog meat for human consumption.

3 History On Dog Meat Dog meat has been around for thousands of years and have used by people as a emergency supply of food in times of need. For example, in WW1 some soldiers ate dogs to keep alive in the trenches. But what is probably the most stereotypical example of dog meat consumption is probably Asian countries. Today, countless dogs are slaughtered in Asia, but the popularity of dog meat seems to have been relatively average until recent years. Back a few centuries ago, dog meat was only popular in winter as it was thought to have medical properties and there are even human burial sites with dogs, showing that maybe dogs were even considered part of a family. But for whatever reason, the popularity of dog meat spiked up suddenly. Oh well, that’s the power of modern advertising for you.

4 How Dog Meat is Produced
Dogs are taken to the slaughter house where they die in a variety of different ways, though none of them peacefully. Dogs can be blowtorched, hanged, beaten, dipped in cauldrons of boiling water and killed in hundreds of more horrible ways. The reason for the cruelty of the deaths is because there is a rumour that the more painful the death, the more tender the meat will be.

5 The End Product Probably the only good thing about dog meat is that producers use nearly everything that the dog provides. From teeth to the brain, it is all used for food or jewellery. Some foods dog meat is used in are…hamburgers, soup or just plain meat.

6 The Good News During recent years, the amount of campaigning, protest and disgust against dog meat seems to have taken its toll on the dog meat eating countries. In China there $3, 000 was raised for the DDWAMP Stop The Dog Festival Indiegogo Campaign and Chinese activists saved 100 dogs from being slaughtered. This improvement, though not enough, is like the sunshine in the rain. Dog meat in the future may just be a distant dark memory in the history of humanity and the butchers regarded like slave drivers today. But there is still not enough support and awareness to end the dog meat trade. We still need more numbers to persuade dog eating nation’s governments to ban dog meat forever. That’s why your support for campaigns like these is greatly needed.

7 Video Here’s a video/news clip we made about dog meat. We hope you enjoy.
