2 Citing in Chicago Style

3 Citing in Chicago Book:
Author, Title: Subtitle (Published City: Publishing Company, Publish Date), pages. Website: “Site Title,” last modified date, full url address. “Site Title,” date accessed, full url address.

4 Source Cards (The Front)
Mr. Vallery Your Name 1. Mann, Elizabeth. The Roman Colosseum. New York: Mikaya Press, 1998. Numbered citation in Chicago format. This is the first source on the first card, so it’s numbered “1”.

5 Source Cards (The Back)
Source Title Your Name Page numbers where the information is originally located. Remember, you need to use at least two non-web sources. The Roman Coliseum Vallery Notes that you have taken from the source. This includes information you’ve summarized as well as quoted. Both need to be properly sourced! Great arena located in ancient Rome, seated 50,000 people. In ruins today. One of the most recognizable landmarks. (pg. 7) “Contests were held there between gladiators and between people and animals. Christians were fed to the lions there.” (pg. 21) Bloody contests held there symbolize the decadence of the Roman Empire. (pg. 63)

6 Footnotes If this long strand of text is part of my essay about dogs, cats, unicorns and rainbows, the proper format for in-text citations would to use a superscript number at the end of the sentence, as I have done here.1 The proper format would also include either a footnote at the bottom of the page. The first time a source is cited, the full version of the citation must be included.2 Afterwards, a shortened version of just the source’s title is acceptable. This is easily done in Microsoft Word.3 1 Author, Adam, Book A: This book is great. (Boston: Book Company, 2009), p. 17. 2 “Webpage B.” Website A. modified January 2, 3 Book A, p. 32.
