1 Cell Organelles 1-8 Page 42

2 1. Cell Membrane Structure surrounding all cells.
Controls what molecules may enter and/or exit the cell.

3 2. Cytoplasm Found in all cells. Jelly-like substance.
Semi-liquid medium that makes up the most of the cell. Contains enzymes & nutrients that help reactions occur.

4 3. DNA Found in all cells. Contains the genetic information required for life. DNA codes for proteins Prokaryotes: 1 circular strand called a PLASMID Eukaryotes: Many linear, double helix strands in the form of chromatin(uncoiled) and chromosomes (coiled)

5 4. Nucleus Found in all eukaryotes.
Surrounded by the nuclear membrane-a double membrane with many nuclear pores to allow proteins and RNA to travel between the nucleus and cytoplasm. contains DNA.

6 5. Nucleolus Inside the nucleus produces ribosomes.

7 6.Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Found in all eukaryotes. Where proteins travel after being produced by ribosomes. Rough-Protein Synthesis Smooth-Lipid Synthesis- new membranes

8 7. Golgi Apparatus Found in all eukaryotes.
Modifies, packages, and transports “stuff” in and out of the cell.

9 8. Lysosome Found in animal cells. Digests food molecules.
Destroys worn-out cell parts.
