1 The Organelles of the Eukaryotic Cell
Science 7

2 Nucleus Control center of the cell Contains DNA

3 Nucleus Animal Cell Plant Cell

4 DNA Deoxyribonucleic acid
Instructions for how the cell should function Found in nucleus

5 DNA Animal Cell Plant Cell

6 Nucleolus Found inside the nucleus Produces ribosomes

7 Nucleolus Animal Cell Plant Cell

8 Nuclear Membrane Protective covering around the nucleus
Semi-permeable: some molecules can cross others can’t

9 Nuclear Membrane Animal Cell Plant Cell

10 Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Carries proteins that will be sent OUT of the cell. Has ribosomes on the surface

11 Rough E.R. Animal Cell Plant Cell

12 Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Carries proteins for use INSIDE the cell.

13 Smooth E. R. Animal Cell Plant Cell

14 Ribosomes Produces proteins for the cell
Found floating in the cytoplasm and on the E. R.

15 Ribosomes Animal Cell Plant Cell

16 Golgi Body (apparatus/complex)
Packages proteins for transport out of the cell.

17 Golgi Apparatus Animal Cell Plant Cell

18 Vesicle Stores and transports proteins to all parts of the body, outside of the cell. Often found next to the golgi bodies

19 Vesicle Animal Cell Plant Cell

20 Mitochondria Produces energy for the cell
Cellular respiration happens here Nutrients are transformed into a useable energy molecule called ATP

21 Mitochondria Animal Cell Plant Cell

22 Cytoskeleton Provides support, strength and shape for the cell.
Is made up of microtubules and microfilaments

23 Cytoskeleton Animal Cell Plant Cell

24 Cytoplasm Jelly-like substance that fills cells and holds organelles in place where chemical reactions take place

25 Cytoplasm Animal Cell Plant Cell

26 Cell Membrane Protective covering of the cell Semi-permeable
Allows materials to pass in and out of the cell

27 Cell Membrane Animal Cell Plant Cell

28 Differences between Plant and Animal Cells
Lysosomes Centrioles Circular shape Chloroplast Central Vacuole Cell Wall Square shape

29 Centrioles Organize microtubules Help with cell division

30 Centrioles Animal Cell Plant Cell

31 Lysosome a specialized vesicle that holds a variety of enzymes that are used to break down materials such as, food old or worn out organelles Or they can program the death of the cell

32 Lysosome Animal Cell Plant Cell
A lysosome is basically a specialized vesiclethat holds a variety of enzymes. The enzyme proteins are first created in the roughendoplasmic reticulum. Those proteins are packaged in a vesicle and sent to the Golgi apparatus. The Golgi then does its final work to create the digestive enzymes and pinches off a small, very specific vesicle. That vesicle is a lysosome. From there the lysosomes float in the cytoplasm until they are needed.

33 Central Vacuole (Plants Only)
Holding tank for plant cell. Stores water, nutrients & some waste.

34 Central Vacuole Animal Cell Plant Cell

35 Cell Wall (Plants Only!)
Outermost covering for a plant cell provides support Outside of the cell membrane

36 Cell Wall Animal Cell Plant Cell

37 Chloroplast (Plants Only!)
Contains chlorophyll (green pigment) that absorbs sunlight Site for PHOTOSYNTHESIS

38 Chloroplast Animal Cell Plant Cell

39 Animal Cell

40 Plant Cell
