Wild Weather For Second Graders Science and Math Unit of Study Students will use the scientific method to gather weather data and chart the results on tables and graphs. Students will describe basic patterns of weather. Students will describe the weather and seasonal changes affects on plants and animals. Describe the weathering and erosion affect on land surfaces.

What drives the Weather The Sun is what causes all of our weather. It is what drives our weather patterns. The sun heats up the Earth and water and this causes the air around the Earth to change. The Sun is what causes all of our weather. It is what drives our weather patterns. The sun heats up the Earth and water and this causes the air around the Earth to change.

Our Air There is air all around the Earth. There is air all around the Earth. It is like a blanket. It is like a blanket. It is called the Earths atmosphere It is called the Earths atmosphere The air is always changing. Sometimes it is warm, sometimes cold. The air is always changing. Sometimes it is warm, sometimes cold. Moving air is called wind. Moving air is called wind. Winds can be helpful or harmful. Winds can be helpful or harmful.

Warm and Cold Air Masses

What are the different factors that control patterns in weather Temperature Temperature Humidity Humidity Wind Speed and Direction Wind Speed and Direction Cloudiness Cloudiness Air Pressure Air Pressure Precipitation Precipitation

How do We Measure Weather Rain Gauge(rain) Weather Vane(wind) Barometer(air pressure) Anemometer(wind speed) Hygrometer(humidity) Thermometer(temperature)

Weather Affects People People dress according to what the weather is like. People dress according to what the weather is like. They build their homes to survive weather changes. They build their homes to survive weather changes. They plan their day and activities according to the weather. They plan their day and activities according to the weather.

Different Seasons-Different Clothes

Animals Animals can sense weather changes. Animals can sense weather changes. Animals will group together. Animals will group together. They try to go to a protected area. They try to go to a protected area. Animals will act strangely when the weather is about to change. Animals will act strangely when the weather is about to change.

Changing with the Weather

Plants change with the Seasons Why do trees loose their leaves in the fall? Do all trees change? When is the best growing season for a garden? When do farmers plant their crops? When do farmers harvest their crops?

How can Weather change our Land? Wind can blow the top layer of soil off. How does that affect farmers? Wind can blow the top layer of soil off. How does that affect farmers? Rain washes soil away and creates different shapes in the land. Floods, erosion Storms can destroy the land. Tornadoes
