Workshop Objectives Participants will be able to:
Describe the relationship between food and culture. Define the term “culture.” Recognize the impact that words may have on individuals who belong to various cultural groups. Discuss the impact that stereotypes can have on interactions with clients/patients, colleagues, and the community.

Workshop Objectives Access the on-line LGBT Training.
Relate stories of exclusion and inclusion. Describe the importance of Self-Reflection and Self-Evaluation in Practice. Distinguish between the concepts of Equality and Equity.

Momma Foods (Comfort Foods)
Each person will describe a food that evokes security and comfort.

Discussion of Comfort Foods Activity
How do you connect the foods people eat to their cultures? How might the reaction of RDs to the client’s foods affect their relationship and interactions? What experiences have you or others that you know had regarding critiques on their dietary intakes? How might food be viewed as a window into what a person thinks about himself or herself and about the world?

What Is Culture? Participant will break into small groups and discuss what the term “culture” means to them. These definitions will be shared with the larger group.
