1 Find out more! Facilitating the IPE Skills Training Series – Join us!
The IPE Skills Training Series comprises four topics, each with two facilitated sessions per semester for two years. Learners in this program complete all topics in the same interprofessional teams. The best possible learning outcomes occur when facilitators stay with the same team for the whole series so ideally, facilitators will lead 2 sessions each term (fall & winter) for two years. Our most pressing need is for facilitators who can commit to join the next cohort of incoming learners every Fall. The first four sessions in this series occur in September, November and March of Year 1. Interprofessional Education (IPE) at Memorial IPE Definition: When learners from health and social care programs at Memorial learn with, from and about each other to provide quality patient-centred care. The Centre for Collaborative Health Professional Education (CCHPE) offers eleven major IPE events per academic year. Learners complete these activities in small interprofessional groups, and each group requires a facilitator. Facilitators volunteer from a variety of backgrounds; faculty, staff, residents, graduate students and clinicians can all excel in this role. Facilitators meet their IPE learner team in September, Year 1… Topic 1: Team Functioning (Fall) What Do Facilitators Do? Guide and support learners in interactive, face-to-face learning activities Lead group discussions and provide context from their own practice experiences Assess short learner assignments and reflections and provide feedback Moderate and stimulate online discussions, responding to and commenting on learner posts Participate in curriculum development and revision Topic 2: Communi-cation (Winter) Rewards of IPE Facilitation Topic 3: Conflict Management (Fall) You will be recognized as a CCHPE associate on our website We will send you a thank you letter documenting all activities and associated hours IPE Facilitation looks great on CVs and teaching dossiers You will build relationships with the next generation of health/social care practitioners You will gain expertise with collaborative care skills that can be applied to your own practice Many facilitators can claim IPE facilitator training as professional development credit hours Topic 4: Addressing Team Failures (Winter) …and learn with their team until the end of Year 2. 2 Training for IPE Facilitators
Every IPE event includes 1 to 1.5 hours of hands-on training for facilitators. In addition, CCHPE offers a full-day IPE facilitation workshop at the beginning of the fall for new and returning facilitators. Our commitment to facilitators is to build their capacity and skill through training and consistent support. The collaboration skills that facilitators learn with their learners are directly applicable to their own work, no matter the setting. 2018/19 IPE Schedule at a Glance “I have really enjoyed working with the students and I am hopeful I will be able to continue to be a part of the team for many years to come. I find it very rewarding helping the students discover and learn. I think this is a wonderful course that aids in teaching the students a very important skill – working with one another in the real world. It is when we work as a team that the outcomes have the potential to be very positive.” - IPE Facilitator Event Date and Time General IPE Facilitator Skills Workshop 09/ :30-4:00 IPE Skills Training Series (Learners complete entire series in the same team) Contact us if you can guide a team through the entire 2-year series!
