1 Good morning/afternoon! 1/23/17
Explain how non-disjunction mutations occur. Based on the picture to the left is the patient a male or female? How are karyotypes organized? Analyzing the karyotype does this person have a non-disjunction mutation? If so, trisomy or monosomy for what chromosome?

2

3 Dominant vs. Recessive aa AA or Aa Versus

4 What does Dominant and Recessive Mean?
Allele= different form of a gene (provided from mom & dad) Dominant= masks effect of recessive gene Recessive= only shown when homozygous recessive

5 Basic Vocabulary Phenotype: Physical appearance
What you see Genotype: Genetic make-up What you cannot see

6 A dominant allele produces a dominant phenotype
A recessive allele produces a recessive phenotype. The individual must have two copies, one from each parent.  Light colored eyes are normally caused by the coupling of recessive alleles.

7 Homozygous vs. Heterozygous
Homo = Same or Similar Hetero = Different #Equality17 Heterozygous Dominant Homozygous Dominant Homozygous Recessive

8 Window Tinting (Dominant vs. Recessive)

9 aa AA or Aa Blue Glass- Dominant White (Clear)- Recessive AA or Aa aa

10 If handcuffed together who would get what they wanted?
Dominant vs. Recessive Versus “I want to wrestle and fight!” “I want to fly and look pretty!” Dominant (AA or Aa) Recessive (aa) If handcuffed together who would get what they wanted?

11 Looks like these two are wrestling 100% of the time!

12 Looks like these two are going to wrestle 75% and fly and look pretty 25% of the time.

13 What are the genotypes. Yy & yy Which gene is dominant
What are the genotypes? Yy & yy Which gene is dominant? Y Which gene is recessive? y What are the phenotypes? Yellow & Green colored peas. What is the ratio of Yellow to Green peas? 50:50

14 A Brown Eyed dog (Bb) is crossed with a green eyed dog (bb)
A Brown Eyed dog (Bb) is crossed with a green eyed dog (bb). What will be the results of the offspring?
