2 Chorus Formation As spring rains , temperature, and daylight hours increase males become active and congregate at breeding sites Initial males begin calling and attract more males As the chorus increases females are attracted to the site

3 Advertisement Calls Male advertisement calls are used to attract females for mating (and maintain spacing from other males) Larger males become the ‘chorus masters’

4 Short Range Calls As females approach their chosen mate both male and female may make some ‘Courtship calls’ to invite ‘amplexus’

5 Other Calls ‘Release calls’ by females or mounted males
‘Distress calls’ when frightened or captured by a predator
