Basic mission of BMWA-activities
- Identification and exploitation of Win-Win-Potentials - along a broad spectrum between research and innovation focus of BMWA-activities pure innovation pure research geographic target area of partners for Austrian applicants: 8 new member states in Central and Eastern Europe; 2 candidate countries; Western Balkan-countries

Motivation Stimulation of the development of „Central European networks“ as an important location asset of the Central and Eastern European region as a whole technology-oriented production networks – specialization, competitive advantages (stronger common competitive position in global context) RTD complementarity – geographical and sectoral specialization Element of the European Research Area (coord. nat./reg./communitiy level – regional aspects of ERA) Linkage between S&T-sector/funds and regional planning sector/structural funds!

Pilot action STRAPAMO 12 projects (out of 21 proposals) selected for funding (5-6 projects with Slovenian „main partners“) all four types of applicants represented (clusters, technology parks, centers of competence, co-operative research institutes) very positive first experiences built-in „learning-element“ (towards follow-up activities)

Slovenia is involved into 5-6 (out of 12) STRAPAMO-projects! e-Care: Information Technologies Toolnet Alpe Adria: automotive technologies KOSS: Material technologies/automotive MATELCOMP: Material technologies Ökonet: Environmental technologies (AuHuCoop: Microelectronics: Slovenia has been integrated as additional partner country during project term; new project name: SlAuHuCoop)

The „CIR-CE“ programme a preview
based on monitoring exercise of STRAPAMO and analyisis of activities at other levels strong focus on synergetization programme offers „internationalization-aspects“ for the relevant actors of the Austrian innovation system and their counterparts in the partner countries programme management by TIG/FFG stronger involvement of enterprises (as compared to STRAPAMO) calls foreseen to take place in rhythm of 1,5 years (3-3,5 M€/call, first call in March-June 2005) 2-3 action lines: a) „initial phase projects“, b) „intensification phase projects“ (and possibly lateron „accompanying measure-type activities“)
