1 Do Now Heading: Magnets
Open up your journal to the next clean page Turn in circuit problems from yesterday

2 Do Now Heading: Magnets
In your Journal copy down the following chart and fill it in What do you KNOW about magnets? What do you THINK YOU KNOW about magnets? What QUESTIONS do you have about magnets? 1) 2) 3)

3 Magnets Can you list examples of magnets used or seen everyday? In your table groups come up with a list of 5 examples or different uses for magnets.

4 Computer Hard Drive Earth MRI machines The strip on the back on the credit card

5 Magnets

6 Attraction and Repulsion

7 Magnetic Fields

8 Rules For Drawing Magnetic Fields
1) Arrows will always leave the north side and go to the south side. 2) Field lines will never cross 3) The closer the lines are the stronger the magnetic field is

9 Draw what you think the magnetic field will look like for this horseshoe magnet

10 How to draw a magnetic field
Draw a dot somewhere near the magnet and place the center of compass over the dot. Draw a dot at the location of the arrow head (or tail) of the compass needle. Move the compass center to this new dot, and again draw a dot at the location of the compass needle head (or tail). Remove the compass from the paper and draw lines connecting the dots with arrows indicating the direction that the compass points. Repeat steps c-d until the line meets the magnet or paper’s edge. Pick another spot near the magnet and repeat the process (steps a-e).
