THEME: Provide a summary level overview of USACE, our structure, our Programs and their size in $ terms, and what we do in our program mission areas
For more than 200 years, the Corps of Engineers has proudly served our nation. In partnership with private sector, our work contributes to national security, economic prosperity, and environmental quality.
USACE’s primary role is to support the Army and the Nation wherever and whenever needed
Mission areas include Civil Works in addition to our Military Programs. Also have ERDC which allows us to find current solutions as well as to develop the next generation of technologies required to support the Army and the Nation.
In addition to the Army and other DOD Organizations, USACE customers include other U.S. agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and many more.
Our FY08 program is approximately $36B, 75% of which is in the Military Program mission arena. This represents an extraordinarily large, challenging and exciting MIL Programs missions.

Execution in FY08 was hindered by authorization and appropriation not being received until well into the second quarter of the FY. This late receipt of authority to execute coupled with a significant workload added by the FY08 Supplemental in June of 2008 resulted in the carry over of 153 projects valued at $3.7B. Still, we were successful in executing (awarding) 415 projects in FY08, valued at $11.92B.
With both authorization and appropriation of the MILCON/BRAC Program having been received in the 1st Quarter of FY09, we expect to increase both the number and dollar value of awards in the FY.
At the same time we are posturing ourselves for continuing and improved success in the FY10-13 Program Years by providing increased emphasis on and attention to achieving Ready to Advertise for all FY10 MILCON projects by the end of the FY. In order to assure the FY10 BRAC Projects are delivered IAW Army needs and Congressional mandates NLT September 15, 2011, we are targeting having all FY10 BRAC Projects RTA NLT 30 June 2009.
In order to improve on the quality of project estimates being incorporated into the Army Budget, and thus improve on award of full project scope and preclude the re-programming issues experienced in FY08, we have also improved on the 3086/parametric design process, and fully expect to have quality 3086’s with parametric estimates completed for the Army FY11 Program NLT 1 Mar 09.
OACSIM has committed to us to provide design releases for the FY12 Army program by Aug 09 so that we can move to full design earlier than in past Program Years, and thereby position ourselves for successful execution of that Army Program.
So, we have been and continue to be busy.
