1 Telling the tale Project 2

2 The project You will create a retelling of a fairy tale.
You will research the story and create a 500 word narrative with a beginning, middle and end. It will include illustrations to accompany your story. It will include stop motion and audio To finish the piece it will be an interactive product.

3 The key Find a story that has meaning to you!
Change it to how you want to tell it! Show your style! This is your story!

4 What skills will you learn?
Foley Narrative structure Soundscapes Story layout Photoshop Character development Stop motion Premiere recap Story telling

5 Task One We need to start, like all good stories, at the beginning!
I would like you to find three stories that you like, they can be fairy tales. You need to tell us why you have chosen these stories and what they tell you. What is the moral of the story? What is the original format?

6 Eight point Ark Stasis ( the beginning) Trigger The quest Surprise
Critical choice Climax Reversal Resolution

7 Cinderella example Stasis: Cinderella lives with her step mother and her mean two sisters. Trigger: Ball invitation, Cinderella is not allowed to go. The quest: Cinderella is on the quest to make her own dress for the ball. Her plan gets ruined by mean sisters. Surprise: Three godmothers appear and help Cinderella to go to ball. Climax: Cinderella has to leave the ball at midnight. She leaves the slipper. Reversal: At midnight Cinderella turns into her old self. Resolution: At the end prince finds Cinderella ( the only girl who could fit her foot into the glass slipper) and they live happy ever after.

8 Task one - Continued You are to identify three adaptations with each story. What changes did they make and how did they do this? (give visual examples to accompany this) What did they keep of the original story? Which of these adaptations do you like and why? What could you take from these adaptations to help you?

9 Task 2 Which one story are you drawn to and why?
With that one story I would like you to create a mind map of ideas. This mind map needs to show what you can bring to your version. Think about the moral of the story and how could you reflect this in the modern world. From the mind map I would like you to formulate 3 ideas as to what you can do. Pick one idea and tell us the following: What is the idea? What are you going to do with the story? Who is the target audience? How are you going to show your style?

10 Task 3 For your idea you are to produce a moodboard!
Use textures, colours, text, images etc BE CREATIVE BE IMAGINATIVE BE YOU!

11 Task four You are to write a 150 word story synopsis.
Here are some questions to help you: WHAT IS YOUR STORY ABOUT? WHO ARE YOUR CHARACTERS? BE FACTUAL AND NOT TRY TO TELL THE STORY, THAT COMES LATER BE CONCISE AND TO THE POINT

12 Task four Now you have you have the foundation of your story, we need to begin building a plan. In story telling we work in three acts. ACT ONE – The set up ACT TWO – The conflict ACT THREE – The conclusion This story set up is used predominantly in films and screenplays. I use this when working on my projects.

13 Task 4 Creating Five Point Plan structure ACT 1
POINT ONE – SETTING THE SCENE Where are we? When are we? Introduce the characters. Show us your world POINT TWO – BUILDING THE TENSION What is the rise of danger? What is the rising hazard? You are leading the reader into the the exciting bit!

14 Task 4 ACT TWO – THE EXCITING BIT This is the climax of the story!
The climax can have a twist! You can fool the reader and use act three to fix that

15 TASK FOUR ACT THREE POINT FOUR – TIDYING UP THE LOOSE ENDS
PHEW! After all that excitement we need to start bringing it to a close. If they have failed in the main climax of the piece, this is where the resolve can happen. POINT FIVE – ENDING THE STORY We now bring it to a close and everything is fixed. They live happily ever after……or do they?

16 Task 5 In groups of three, I would like you to share your ideas with each other. You are to respect the ideas being shared! What did you like about the story? What did you not like? What could be improved? THIS IS TO HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR STORY! You are to collect this feedback and post this on your blog!
