1 Nationwide Community Grants
Applicant workshop

2 Aims and Outcomes Nationwide aims to support projects grouped under three outcome areas. The aim is to fund projects that provide housing services to people in need and support the most vulnerable. Successful projects must support one of the following outcomes: Preventing people from being homeless; Helping people into a home; Supporting people to remain in their home.

3 Priorities For the shortlisting process Nationwide will prioritise organisations that: Are embedded in the local community that can evidence knowledge of local issues and have a network of local connections Illustrate a clear link to Nationwide’s key objectives and can demonstrate the impact their project will have on communities Plan to use original and creative approaches to address local need Have robust plans to measure and report on the difference the grant will make Can demonstrate sustainability beyond the life of the grant Have the potential to scale up in new areas

4 The Community Grants process
Grant applications open 5 March 2018 Community Foundations shortlist applications Applications sent to Community Board members for review Second Community Board Meeting 7 June 2018 Community Foundations notify applicants of voting results Nationwide members vote 18 June 2018 Community Foundations notify applicants if not shortlisted Successful applicants receive donations and contracts Community Foundations monitor progress

5 What makes a good grant application?
Strong governance Meets the Nationwide criteria Demonstrates how the project will achieve Nationwide’s outcomes Outlines the direct impact on individuals and the local community Provides evidence that the project is needed Demonstrates sustainability beyond the life of the grant Is simple, clear, and concise

6 What’s in and out of scope?
What we will fund Core costs Staff costs (at the Real Living Wage) Development and capacity building costs Volunteer costs Activity costs Small-scale capital costs Refurbishment costs will be considered What we won’t fund  Major / Large-scale capital costs - Vehicles, land, property, building works. Retrospective costs Over 25% of your annual income. Staff costs will not be funded for statutory organisations, housing associations or constituted community and voluntary sector organisations, that are applying in partnership with a community group.
